A Very First Birthday Party

When I began thinking about my daughter’s first birthday – and her party specifically – I had a lot of ideas. Too many in fact. A circus party…a “mini” party…a “1” party….a pink lemonade and yellow flower party….a pinwheel party…etc, etc, etc. I finally narrowed it down to a pinwheel party – made a bunch of pinwheels – and then promptly changed my mind. Isn’t that how it usually works?

First Birthday

I finally ended up with a “very first birthday party” and used bright pinks, orange, and teal as my color palette. I was inspired by some fabric that I purchased at our local Joann’s Fabric.
Like many moms and dads, including photos in a printable invite was at the top of my list.  My good friend came over one afternoon and took a bunch of great photos.  I used several in the custom invite that I designed.

I knew that her first birthday party was something that I wanted to remember.  And I hoped to start a new tradition with her.  I fell in love with wooden peg dolls and happened to stumble upon this Etsy seller.  She was awesome to work with and created the most adorable custom topper for my daughter!  I absolutely LOVE it and she can use it until she turns 21!!!!  Just add as many candles as you need and cover the remaining holes with the flowers.

Marshmallow Pops – I totally lucked out on the displays…everything is from the dollar store.  The sparkly bases had these really ugly lids that I tossed….the butterflies are iron-on sparkly patches…and the styrofoam came as a 2-pack that I just had to trim to fit.  (oh and it’s just covered in crepe paper!)

She really had a great time at her party!  She loved all the people – the food (which I must have forgotten to take pictures of but it was basically 2 kinds of lasagna, a crockpot of spaghetti sauce with noodles on the side and a baked corkscrew pasta).  I have to say that having a birthday in the backyard is so much easier than in the house!
Happy Birthday to my sweet sweet baby girl!  We love you so so much.
