Bash Conference – Table Design Competition

Last month I had the opportunity to attend the Bash Conference (more on this amazing conference in a separate post).  As part of the 3-day event, they hosted a “Table Design Competition” – which was an opportunity to design and style one table…from soup to nuts.  From top to bottom.  Within a few parameters.  As part of this competition and in writing this post, I was given and/or compensated with product.  This post contains links to those products.  In some cases, I may receive additional compensation as a result of clicking the links.  All opinions contained in this post are my own.

In order to compete in this competition, you had to select one of two very broad themes:  1)  Modern Elegance or 2) Hollywood and submit a short 100-word explanation as well as a rendering of your concept.   Since I’m not an event planner or a professional party stylist – I have very limited connections when it comes to things like linens and tableware – which made the decision to enter a REALLY big one.  (like huge, really!)

On a whim (and a prayer…or many prayers), I opted to enter.   I thought my idea was original and it fell into the “Hollywood” category.  I knew that I wanted to expand on the “hollywood theme” and I ultimately chose one of my all time favorite movies:  “Singin’ in the Rain”.

If you’ve never seen “Singin’ in the Rain”, first of all, you totally should! It’s a classic and it’s funny!  Second of all, it’s all about how Hollywood transitioned from the era of silent films to “talkies”.  The addition of sound to the moving pictures caused quite a big stir in Hollywood back in the day.  In doing my homework for my table, I opted to NOT  focus in on the most popular aspect of the movie (the umbrellas) primarily because that had been done – and you could find 100+ examples of umbrella parties on pinterest.   I opted to focus on the lamppost from the famous scene with Gene Kelly where he actually sings the hit song “Singin’ in the Rain”.

I will have separate posts on all of the details and the fabulous vendors, but in the meantime, please check out these great photos!
