Cupcake Topper Tutorial

Are you looking for help assembling your cupcake toppers?  This cupcake topper tutorial will take you through the steps needed to get your cupcake toppers assembled and ready for your sweets!  Although I’m using my Halloween cupcake toppers, the tutorial works for any theme!

This cupcake topper tutorial will walk you through the supplies you’ll need to assemble the toppers in the easiest and fastest way possible!  And you’ll look like you’ve been doing them for YEARS!

Cupcake Topper Tutorial

Before you begin, assemble your supplies.

  • White Cardstock
  • Standard Paper Trimmer (I used my basic fiskars that I’ve had for many years)
  • Lollipop Sticks (I used the 4″ but I also like the 6″)
  • Ribbon/yarn (optional)
  • Elmer’s Glue or Tape
  • 2″ Round punch (I used my 2″ round and 2″ scalloped punch from Fiskars)
The supplies all ready to go!
Step 1:  Print the file
Step 2: Trim the cardstock to size.
Cut the cardstock into strips using your paper trimmer.  I typically cut across so that I have 4 rows of 3 toppers.
Step 3: Use the punch
Flip your circle punch upside down and make sure that the image is centered.  If it’s not centered, trim the strip slightly and test it again.
Step 4:  Attach your sticks
Attach your popsicle stick or lollipop sticks to the back of the topper. You can either use Elmer’s White School Glue or plain Scotch Tape.  If you decide to glue, allow time for the glue to dry.  The bonus with Elmer’s is that it dries clear.  (Also – make sure you glue the stick on so that the image is straight!)
Step 5  (optional): Embellish!
Attach ribbon or yarn or other embellishments.  These have ribbon tied to the top of the stick.
The cute details!
Your cupcake toppers are ready to go!   Just insert into the top of your cupcakes and voila!  Insta-cute!
What do you think? Did I miss anything?  Is there anything you’d add?
