Road Trip – Toy Ideas for the Car
If you are like me, when you go on a family vacation – especially a road trip – you really try to make it fun for everyone. Our family will be taking a trip to Disneyland in a few weeks and we will be making the drive from Sacramento to Anaheim. My kids are almost 6 and 9 so there’s a decent age gap: the little one thinks that she’s big and the big one thinks he’s bigger than he is! As I prep for our trip (and entertaining the kids for 6+ hours with something more than a few movies), I discovered Magformers and knew that they’d be perfect for my kids who love to build! I was given Magformers product for this post. This post may also contain affiliate links to those products. In some cases, I may receive additional compensation as a result of clicking the links. Although I was given the items you see in this post, all opinions contained in this post are my own and only endorse those products that I love!
I posted about my Easter Basket Ideas a couple of weeks ago and the Easter Bunny was kind enough to bring us the Magformer Neon Creator Set Line which came with 26 pieces. Both kids were SO excited to play with this set! I love that it came with 26 pieces and was “shareable” – which meant that when they were done building something together, they could choose the color pieces they wanted and build something on their own!
I was a little worried that the magnets wouldn’t be strong enough for my rough and tumble kids but that definitely is not the case. My kids took these in the car on the way to grandma’s house and my 5 year old used them to “fish” for the pieces that she dropped on the floor of the car! She thought that was a lot of fun!
The set that we have includes neon colored squares and triangles that are easy to hold and connect. You’ll actually hear a click when they are connected.
Don’t let the “3+” age recommendation scare you away if you have older kids. My daughter has always gravitated to these at the toy store but it was my 9 year old who jumped in and started creating out the colorful booklet that was included with the set.
My kids loved that the booklet contained both easy and harder building plans.
My kids also loved these at the restaurant at Easter Dinner. It was nice to NOT have whining kids and to see them using their brains and not just involved with their Kindles.
When we head out on our road trip to Disneyland, we will get each of my kids a metal cookie sheet so that they’ll have a solid (and magnetic) surface to play on. I can’t wait to see what they build!
